Magistrates court billing and prior authority applications

Contempt of court billing

Once the matter is finished, please complete a CRMClaim11 and complete a Schedule of Time Spent and send this, with your full file of papers to the Criminal Finance Team within the Nottingham Legal Aid Agency Office. 

Please note that Counsels fees must be submitted with the Instructing Solicitors claim and we require a completed CRM8 and Note of Taxation from Counsel. 

Assigned Counsel Rates can be claimed at £70 per hour for attendances, preparation and advocacy under the Standard Crime Contract Part B 10.108.

Prior Authority

Prior Authority can be claimed by way of a letter to The National Crime Team at the above address or via email to Nottingham.NCT@legalaid.gsi.gov.uk. Please ensure the letter or email is clearly marked as a contempt matter. You should include the clients CNTP number and details of the expert to be instructed along with the quote for the work to be done.

Further Breaches of the same Representation Order

Please note that a further breach of the same order will be treated as a series of offences and an amendment will be made to the existing representation order. Please contact NCT Nottingham by letter or email and provide evidence of any further alleged breach.

  • 7.  (1)  The fixed amounts and hourly rates for representation in the Crown Court in proceedings prescribed as criminal proceedings under section 14(h) of the Act (other than an appeal from a magistrates’ court) are specified in the table following this sub-paragraph and this Unit of Work is subject to an Upper Limit of £1,500.
